So, we looked into it and this is what we have found out about DoorDash’s policies on speeding tickets….
Can You DoorDash If You Have A Speeding Ticket?
You can work for DoorDash if you have a speeding fine on your driving record – so long as you don’t have more than two of them!
The DoorDash background checks include an investigation into your driving misdemeanors; if you have more than three “moving violations”, you may be disqualified from working for the company.
How Does A Speeding Ticket Affect Your Application To Work For DoorDash?
How a speeding fine can affect your application depends on how many you’ve had.
When you apply to work as a “DoorDash courier, your application includes a background check so that the company can assess you as being safe to work for them and to serve their customers.
DoorDash use a third party company called Chekr to conduct these background checks, and there are a number of issues that can bring your application to a halt. These are:
- Drug and alcohol issues
- A criminal history
- Drink driving offences
- Sexual offences
- Three or more moving violations – these include speeding fines.
- A suspended driver’s license
Remember that any of these issues that crop up after you begin working for DoorDash will also affect your ability to continue to work for them – and this includes speeding fines.
If you’re not careful while working for DoorDash, you might accidently chalk up that third fine and lose your right to continue working. And yes, DoorDash does carry out random background checks of its employees from time to time.
Does DoorDash Check Your Driving Record?
During the background check application process, the third party company known as Chekr will certainly check your driving record in the Motor Vehicle Records Database.
While they check for obvious things such as DUI offences, they’ll also be looking to see if you have any stoplight tickets, any drug related traffic offences, any instances of driving without car insurance and they will check your traffic accident record.
This is where they will find your speeding fines if you have any.
These background checks go back three years; however, this does not include DUI offences which go back 7 years.
What Does DoorDash Look For In Background Checks?
DoorDash use the background check process to assess whether you are a reliable, responsible and safe driver on the roads and employee during interactions with clients.
First of all they require your full name, date of birth, and social security number and a verification of identity. Then they’ll look for felony convictions, sexual offenses, driving issues, and drug and/or alcohol problems.
If Chekr find a record of any of these during the process, and the offense(s) are enough to be classed as a violation, your application will be red flagged and will be given a “consideration” status.
This means DoorDash is considering whether to approve or reject your application.
You can obtain a copy of your background check and you have 30 days to dispute any information you think is erroneous.
Can You Work For DoorDash With An Expired Driver’s License?
You cannot work for DoorDash if your driver’s license is expired – just as you cannot drive anywhere without a valid driver’s license. You must also have a valid and up to date insurance on your vehicle if you want to work for DoorDash.
However, some markets allow “DoorDashing” on scooters, motorbikes, bicycles, and/or on foot. If this is the case, you only need the required valid license for the vehicle you have, or if you plan to deliver on foot, no license at all.
The validity of your license depends on the way you plan to DoorDash for your local market. You will also be required to have a working smartphone and be 18 years old or over.
What Happens If I Get Other Tickets While Driving For DoorDash?
People often ask about reimbursement for other kinds of fines associated with food delivery service drivers. Unfortunate, DoorDash will not reimburse its drivers for these. This is stated in their Independent Contractor Agreement.
These type of fines include parking tickets, traffic tickets, toll fees, and parking fees. DoorDash advise its drivers to check and plan ahead the route they will take and to abide by the local parking and traffic laws.
They also advise the use of in-app navigation, which uses Google Maps to find exact locations, set routes and avoid tolls.
How Can I Work For DoorDash If I Don’t Have A Car?
There are many employees with DoorDash who deliver food in ways other than by car. In the “Info on your city” section on the DoorDash website, you can find a list of vehicle types available in your area.
A delivery is a simple sequence of three steps:
- going to the restaurant
- picking up the food
- delivering the food to the customer
Therefore, if you plan to deliver on foot, when you are signing up for work, you will choose to deliver only near your home – or a little further out if you have a bike or scooter.
Note, however, that not all cities allow multiple ways to deliver orders. Always check this out before submitting your application.
What Happens If I Get A Speeding Fine After I Start Working For DoorDash?
Unfortunately, a speeding offence committed during the time you work for DoorDash will add to whatever current tally you already have.
This means that if you already have two speeding fines, the third one will put you at risk of DoorDash terminating your employment with them.
If the fine is your first, then it isn’t so serious.
However, certain issues will disqualify you immediately, regardless of it being a first offence. These include felonies, sex crimes, and DUI offences.
