How To Transfer Prescription From Walgreen to CVS

First of all, let your pharmacy know what you want to do. You can do this in person (phoning or dropping by the pharmacy) or you can complete the transferral process online.

Many people prefer to talk to the pharmacist first. This makes it easier if you happen to have a medication that cannot be transferred. Some medications have strict transfer requirements. CVS will ask for your personal information, the prescription information, and details of your current pharmacy.

The CVS store will handle the transfer details from there. It’s useful to take your current prescription medication with you, and always do it well before you’ve nearly run out of it.

If you want to it online, both Walgreen and CVS have a streamlined process for prescription transferrals. Online, you’ll need to provide the same personal and prescription details and pharmacy information.

Can You Transfer A Prescription From Walgreens to CVS?

CVS is an American healthcare and pharmacy company, which provides health solutions and support in navigating all aspects of the American health care system. Walgreens is the second-largest pharmacy store chain in the United States (behind CVS Health). They are separate companies – but you can transfer your prescriptions between them.

If I Have A Prescription At Another Pharmacy, Can I Refill It At Walgreens?

Walgreens will ask for your personal details, the name of the medication, and contact details for your previous pharmacy.

They will then contact your pharmacy to get the information needed to fill the prescription. If your prescription has no remaining refills, they will contact the prescribing physician.

If completing the process online, you’ll have to choose to have the prescription filled at your local Walgreens store or have your order shipped to you. You’ll then receive an email when the order is ready to be picked up or has been shipped.

Remember that different pharmacies may have different prices, and that there are certain medication that can only be transferred once. After this one transfer, you’ll need to return to your physician for a new prescription.

What Kind Of Information Do I Need To Transfer A Prescription?

For health and safety reasons, the information you need to provide for your new pharmacy must be very detailed, accurate, and current. The kind of information they’ll require includes:

  • Your full name and date of birth
  • Your address and phone number – and a current active email address
  • All allergies that you know of (food and medicines)
  • The proper names of all prescriptions you’re transferring
  • The strength and dosage of your medications (this information should be on the medication boxes/bottles)
  • Rx number for each medication (the 7-digit number on the top left of the label)
  • Phone number and address for your current pharmacy
  • Contact information for your prescribing physician (they will need this to refill your current medication)
  • Prescription insurance information (if applicable)

How Do You Transfer Prescriptions To Another State?

It’s not difficult to transfer prescription from state to state, but it’s important to remember that the process can take up to 3 business days. Therefore, always complete this process well before you’re at the end of your current medication supplies.

Remember also that some medication prescriptions are not transferrable, and that some are only transferable once. In this case, you’ll need to visit a new physician or get your current physician to fax a copy of your script to your new pharmacy.

If you’re able to, use a pharmacy within the same chain. The transfer process for doing this is simpler and quicker.

If you’re changing your pharmacy provider to a different chain, then remember to choose one within your insurance network.
