Kohl’s announced in December of 2020 that they would be forming a partnership with Sephora. This partnership is focused on rolling out Sephora locations to replace the beauty departments in Kohl’s. It’s been implemented at a number of Kohl’s locations across the country, with plans to expand to 400 stores by 2023.
Since the stores are now partnered up, Sephora beauty products will be available for purchase from Kohl’s stores both online and in-store. Accordingly, Kohl’s also has a returns policy for Sephora products purchased at Kohl’s locations.
Can I Return Sephora Products to Kohl’s?
You can return Sephora products to Kohl’s as long as they were purchased from a Sephora location inside Kohl’s. Regular Sephora purchases outside of Kohl’s (including from Sephora.com) cannot be returned to Kohl’s or Sephora locations inside Kohl’s.

Can You Return Beauty Products to Kohl’s?
Purchasing makeup can be a pain sometimes when you try it out and realize it isn’t quite what you expected. Luckily, Kohl’s has a fairly lenient policy for returning beauty products. Interestingly enough, even Sephora products purchased at Kohl’s can be returned according to the Kohl’s return policy (Sephora’s return policy is slightly more strict in most cases).
You can return beauty products to Kohl’s. According to Kohl’s return policy, “beauty purchases (including Sephora at Kohl’s or Wellness Market), must be new or gently used condition and must be returned within 60 days from the date of purchase and with a valid receipt or account/tender lookup”.
On the other hand, products purchased at regular Sephora locations (including Sephora.com), cannot be returned to Kohl’s. If you want to return a product purchased at a regular Sephora location, you will have to refer to Sephora’s own return policy.
Sephora Stores Inside Kohl’s
Since they announced their partnership in December of 2020, Sephora products have been available inside some Kohl’s locations across the US. Although it hasn’t been introduced to every Kohl’s location yet, the store has plans to put Sephora’s inside 400 of their stores by the end of 2022.
There are a few things about Sephora at Kohl’s that you should know before shopping there. The first is the difference in return policies between regular Sephora locations and Sephora inside Kohl’s. This has already been discussed earlier in this article, but the gist of it is that returns must be processed according to the Kohl’s returns policy, even for Sephora products purchased at Kohl’s.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you can in fact sign up for a new Beauty Insider account at Sephora locations inside Kohl’s. This can also be done directly from kohl’s.com. However, for the full terms and conditions for the Beauty Insider program, you will have to check out Sephora.com.
Can I Return Sephora Items to Sephora Inside JcPenney?
Much like with Kohl’s, Sephora has a partnership with JcPenney to provide beauty services within JcPenney locations. However, this partnership will expire in late 2022, when JcPenney plans on rolling out their own beauty services to replace the Sephora services previously offered in JcPenney.
You can return Sephora Items to Sephora inside JcPenney. However, Sephora locations at JcPenney stores will be phased out as their contract expires in late 2022. If you still have a JcPenney-Sephora store near you, the return policy is the same as Sephora’s.

As Sephora and JcPenney begin to end their beauty service relationship, you can expect to see more and more Sephora Beauty offered at Kohl’s stores across the country. Beauty products purchased at Sephora locations inside Kohl’s may be returned to Sephora at Kohl’s locations, but cannot be returned to regular Sephora stores. This also applies to Sephora products purchased from Kohls.com.
