Elon Musk Slams Trump’s Funding Bill as a ‘Disgusting Abomination’

Jun 3, 2025 · Leave a Comment

Elon Musk has once again publicly criticized President Donald Trump’s funding bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination” in a scathing post on X.

The billionaire entrepreneur, who has been increasingly vocal about political matters, expressed his deep dissatisfaction with the House-passed bill, which aims to extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts and allocate increased funding for military and border security.

Musk didn’t hold back, writing, “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

The bill, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” is a significant piece of legislation that promises to add $3.8 trillion to the federal debt over the next decade, according to estimates from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

In addition to extending tax cuts, the bill proposes cuts to programs like Medicaid and SNAP, a move that has sparked controversy among critics who argue that it will disproportionately affect vulnerable citizens.

In a follow-up post, Musk highlighted his concerns about the growing national deficit, claiming that the bill would push the U.S. budget deficit to a staggering $2.5 trillion.

He further criticized Congress for what he described as a reckless approach to spending, tweeting, “Congress is making America bankrupt.”

While Musk’s comments have drawn significant attention, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson quickly defended the bill, dismissing Musk’s criticisms as misguided. “For him to come out and pan the whole bill is… disappointing and surprising,” Johnson said. “I think the risk is very great. We have to pass this legislation.“

Musk had previously voiced similar concerns in an interview with CBS News, expressing his disappointment with the bill’s implications for the federal budget. He argued that rather than reducing the deficit, the bill would exacerbate it, undermining fiscal responsibility and counteracting efforts like those from his company, DOGE, to drive economic innovation.

His frustration was evident, as he also announced his departure from the Trump administration, ending his role as a “special government employee” overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency.

Despite Musk’s strong criticisms, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt downplayed the billionaire’s remarks. “It doesn’t change the president’s opinion,” she said during a White House briefing. “This is one big, beautiful bill and he’s sticking to it.“

The bill, which is currently being debated in the Senate, remains a key point of contention as Trump works to secure the necessary votes to pass his sweeping legislative agenda.

While Trump has defended the bill, calling it an “unbelievable bill” that will reduce deficits and create significant cuts, Musk’s public backlash highlights the deep divisions surrounding the proposed legislation.

As negotiations continue in the Senate, the future of the bill—and the battle over America’s fiscal priorities—remains uncertain. Musk’s vocal opposition signals growing tensions between powerful private sector leaders and political figures, raising questions about the impact of such clashes on the broader political landscape.
