DoorDash and Uber Eats
Doordash had the highest market share of any affordable meal delivery service in 2019, with about 27% of the market. DoorDash charges between $1.99 to $5.99 per order.
It is also available in all 50 states, making it easy and convenient to order from anywhere in the US. The fact that it’s all over is great for restaurants as well, as they can reach the widest possible audience.
Even though UberEats is only available in 500 locations throughout the world, it has a market share of about 25%. Uber Eats has a wide network of drivers, so there is always someone available to deliver orders placed through the app as well.
It might seem minor, but the fact that DoorDash is 100% committed to just delivering food seems to make the experience much more streamlined and efficient.
In general, Uber Eats is probably better for large orders because of DoorDash’s 7-14% service fee. But DoorDash is superior for small orders because of their lower minimum requirement.
DoorDash and Other Delivery Services
Small order fees are charged by both Uber Eats and DoorDash for orders that fall below a certain minimum, although DoorDash often has a lower minimum than Uber Eats. This means that if you’re simply purchasing one or two items, the small order fee is normally eliminated.
This makes DoorDash the more affordable option for little purchases. However, because of DoorDash’s 7%-15% service fee, Uber Eats comes out on top for larger orders.
DoorDash also offers the perk of delivering alcohol, while Uber Eats does not.
Which Is Cheaper Uber Eats, Grubhub, or DoorDash?
Before tip, GrubHub was somewhat less expensive than DoorDash with DashPass. In contrast, Uber Eats appears to be the priciest service on the market. Uber Eats’s tip recommendation is always $4. Every time, GrubHub recommends a 20% tip.
New meal delivery apps are taking over the territory previously inhabited by pizza delivery men and Chinese takeout.
“Sales to the four largest apps—DoorDash, Grubhub (which owns Seamless), Uber Eats, and Postmates—have tripled since 2016,” says Second Measure, an analytics company.
Forget Blue Apron and Hello Fresh, food delivery apps make it easy to get your favorite meals and drinks from local eateries without ever leaving the house. Users can choose from thousands of establishments and have their meal delivered within minutes of placing an order.
After all, that ease comes at a price—figuratively. When it comes to third-party and restaurant delivery applications, “consumers pay 42 percent more than when they buy takeout or eat in the restaurant.”
There is a service cost (commonly 10-15 percent of your order), an occasional “small order” fee (usually $2 for orders under $10-$15), and increased pricing during busy hours.
