Why Was My Amazon Order Undeliverable?

An Amazon order can be undeliverable for various reasons. Most commonly because the address was incorrect, the item got lost or damaged in transit, or the package was not accepted when a delivery attempt was made.

Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why you didn’t receive your order…

Incorrect Address

Sometimes, the mistake is on the customer’s end, and they fill out the wrong details. Either the pin code or your house number is wrong, making it difficult for the delivery to locate the house.

Certain cases were reported when the customer’s loved ones sent them a gift through Amazon, and they gave an outdated address. It can also happen that the package got shifted to another area’s van and then delivery company returned it.

The address problem is relatively common among customers. Therefore, we advise you to save the address and delete the outdated address from the Amazon account to avoid confusion.

Package Not Accepted

Sometimes, a recipient won’t accept a package or the delivery courier needed a signature for an expensive item and no one was home.

Or, if the package was going to an apartment or office building, they may have attempted delivery when the building was closed. It isn’t unheard of for couriers to attempt deliveries in the early morning and not have a secure location to leave the package.

This leads to the delivery courier to take the package back to their warehouse and return it. Normally, the courier will make multiple attempts to deliver the order, but if the recipient is not at home, the order remains undeliverable.

Transit Damage

Although the manufacturer packs the products very well not to damage them, sometimes, the product gets damaged. The corrugated box comes undone, or the entire box gets smashed in transit.

The delivery company sends the order back to the manufacturer during such a situation. The manufacturer can then contact you to inform you about the mishap and ship the order again. Or, you might have to place the order again.

Got Lost

This happens rarely, but sometimes, your parcel gets lost in transit. Keep a check on the delivery status on the app. Contact Amazon if it says that you were supposed to get your order by a particular date, and they have already exceeded the date.

They will know the proper status of your parcel, and if it has already been 2-3 weeks, then it means your package will not reach you. If it remains undeliverable, you will get a refund for this too.

Address Was Illegible

Sometimes the shipping label get’s damaged or wet. In these cases, the address becomes illegible and the barcode cannot be scanned.

This is similar to the item being damaged in transit. With no label on the box, the package can’t be properly delivered.

Why Does Amazon Say Currently Not Deliverable?

If Amazon says that your order is currently not deliverable, then it means that they cannot deliver to your location at this moment. Let’s see why this happens:

No Delivery Partner

Sometimes, Amazon cannot deliver to a specific remote location due to the lack of a courier partner in that area. This rarely happens, especially in the US. Almost every major city has a courier company that delivers its products to even the small areas.

But, if, at times, a courier partner becomes inoperable in that area, it will show that they cannot deliver in that location.

Restricted Address

Amazon won’t deliver to restricted addresses, this includes prisons, correctional facilities, or other similar institutions.

If this is the case, you will have to reorder the product to a new address and have someone deliver it in person.

Recipient Refused The Package

This happens quite often when it’s a gift item and the recipient wasn’t expecting it.

If at the time of delivery, the recipient says they didn’t order or refuse to accept the gift, they can send it back. This will show up as ‘not deliverable’ on your end and you would receive a refund.

If you think the gift recipient will deny the package, you can inform them a package of yours is on the way ahead of time. It may spoil the surprise, but you can come up with an excuse like you’ll be out of town and hope they can keep it safe in the meantime.

What To Do if Your Amazon Product Is Undeliverable?

Amazon has a reach to every nook and corner of the world, but sometimes, they cannot deliver their products. Here are a couple of things that you should always keep in mind if you

Contact Amazon

If you have placed an order and then after a few days, it states that your order is undeliverable, you should contact the Amazon helpline first. Inform them about the status, when you ordered the product, and the other details. They will tell you the reason why your package could not be delivered to you.

Since the package will go back to the manufacturer, you will get the total amount in a refund.

Place a New Order

If the issue was on your end, related to an incorrect address, or if you didn’t pick the call, then you can place a new order. This time, check all the details correctly and be available at your place when the order is being delivered.

Amazon always texts you when and at what time their courier partner will visit you, so you can contact them if you are not available.

If the issue was related to lockdown, wait a couple of days before placing a new order.

If your product got damaged in transit, you would also get a refund. After this, you can again place an order.
