Menchie’s is one of my go-to dessert spots when I have a sweet-tooth. But at my local Menchie’s, there’s almost always just one or two young workers.
Makes me wonder, if Menchie’s hires 15 and 16 year olds. It seems like a great first job for a high school student, so I looked into it and this is what I found….
Does Menchie’s Hire At 15 Years Old?
Menchie’s does hire at 15. The Menchie’s Website job application page asks applicants to state if they are under the age of 18. If you are, they will still hire you, but the positions you can apply for are limited.
Most online feedback states that Menchie’s regularly hire people aged 16. However, outlets have hired workers at age 14 and 15. It seems to depend on the location of the store, the demand for employees, the age of the available employees, and the nature of the work.
Menchie’s hire team managers, cashiers, assistant managers, shift leaders, and store managers. Your age will limit your application. To be a shift leader, for example, you need to be 17.

Is Menchie’s A Good First Job?
People have found Menchie’s a useful place to start out in the job market. This is because they gained practical skills and experience, enjoyed free perks, and learned some valuable people skills.
However, most feedback is particular to the actual location worked at. In other words, how good (or bad) a time you have working for Menchie’s depends on the outlet you worked at and the team you worked with.
What’s Good About Working At Menchie’s?
First of all, employees found the work simple. In other words, it was easy to learn (training is provided) and quick to master. And if you had a good boss, the pressures of time management, customer demands, and staff conflict were not so stressful .
Employees found Menchie’s a place where they could show initiative and be creative, accept responsibility, and take charge when necessary. They found these experiences to be satisfying and rewarding.
Others reported that the busy days went quickly, and it was fun interacting with co-workers. They also enjoyed the free yogurt and appreciated the “flexible working hours and fair working environment.”
A number of people reported that they loved being able to contribute marketing ideas and thoughts to management and felt proud when management used their ideas.
What’s Not Do Good About Working At Menchie’s?
Well, unfortunately, all of the above reasons fail to apply when you work in a Menchie’s store where the management is not so good.
Employees remembered feeling stressed and anxious when their efforts were criticized, their ideas ignored, and their requests for flexible working hours refused.
Others mentioned that working in environments which were poorly managed caused fatigue and boredom regardless of the amount of work.
If staff conflict was poorly handled, everyone was affected and this “caused people to leave who otherwise would have stayed”. Employees also left the job because their store was “understaffed, and the pressure to ‘keep up’ became too intense.”
All of these issues are clearly unique to specific Menchie’s locations rather than to the Menchie’s Company in general.
How Old Do You Have To Be To Work At Menchie’s?
There are very few references to anyone younger than 15 being employed at Menchie’s. This is because of the nature of the work, and the responsibilities of the role. It is also because of the conventional commitments of schooling for all young people during school term time.
Menchie’s is a good place to enter the work market, with employees beginning as team members at the age of 15.
If you’re applying for a full time work, you’ll have to be available to fulfil the hours. This means you’ll need reliable transport and study commitments that you can put aside. The management positions are generally full time roles.
Generally, the older you are, the more likely you will be to win management and team leader positions with Menchie’s.
How Much Does Menchie’s Pay?
Your earnings at Menchie’s depends on what job you do. Menchie’s pay starts at around $10 per hour for team (or crew) members and can go up to $18 per hour for management positions:
- Team member $9 – $11 per hour
- Cashier – $11 to $14 per hour
- Shift leader (or supervisor) – $11 to $15 per hour
- Store Manager – $15 to $18 per hour
- District Managers – around $47,481 per year
Menchie’s employer perks can vary from store to store, but they should all offer you discounted and free products each shift.
You’ll also receive your uniforms or at least uniforms at a discounted rate, and you should be able to take advantage of flexible duty hours.
Employees at a management level will benefit from retirement plans, healthcare cover, and paid sick and vacation days.
