Is Sushi at Walmart Any Good?
Sushi is not easy to make, while the premise is fairly simple, the process is not and there is a big emphasis on the importance of fresh fish used to make rolls and other types of Japanese dishes.
It would be amazing to think that even with everything Walmart has to offer, it could also make amazing sushi, sadly, according to customers who have tried it, it’s not that great, but then again, it’s sushi from a grocery store so it kind of makes sense that you wouldn’t be able to get a premium sushi experience, especially after you consider the price.
Is Walmart Sushi Safe?
Sushi is all about raw fish, so it’s normal to have some concerns if you’re buying sushi at a grocery store.
There is no health risk to worry about when purchasing Sushi at Walmart, but you should keep in mind that raw fish can be eaten up to three days after you purchase it, and cooked or vegetarian rolls can be eaten up to seven days after purchase. When in doubt check the expiration date.
Still, that doesn’t mean you are getting an amazing quality dish, but if you really crave some sushi, it will do, besides, the great thing they have going for them is the fact that while you are grocery shopping you can just stumble across a box of sushi and put it in your cart, so they get points for convenience.
Does Walmart Sell Fresh Sushi?
Yes, Walmart sells fresh sushi so you can buy and eat right away.
Does Walmart Sell Frozen Sushi?
Yes, Walmart sells frozen sushi although they don’t offer a lot of variety. You’ll mostly see Spicy Crab Rolls and California Roll, but it’s an option.
What Grocery Store Sells Good Quality Sushi?
If you happen to agree with most customers, you might not enjoy Walmart’s sushi very much, however that is not the only grocery store that offers fresh fish meals.
If you want to get great sushi, according to customers, your best choice would be Whole Foods
According to Taste of Home, you can also improve your grocery store sushi with a few steps that are actually worth it
A little bit of heating will fluff up the rice and enhance those delicious flavors you love so much,” the magazine explains. “A half a minute is the sweet spot for saving that store-bought sushi. Any less and you won’t notice any difference. But any more and you will either dry out the rice in your roll or end up with a piping hot dish (not normal and not good).
That way you will get a little bit closer to the Japanese restaurant experience.
Does Walmart Have Hissho Sushi?
Walmart has partnered with Hissho Sushi and has been offering Hissho on the Go program at Walmart locations in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area late last year.
However back in 2020, they opened a Sushi and Craft Beer Bar in a Walmart store located in Arkansas.
According to progressivegrocer.com:
This opening of our second craft beer bar location showcases Hissho Sushi’s commitment to growth and redefining the experience of a customer’s evening at their local grocery store,” noted Dan Beem, CEO of Charlotte-based Hissho Sushi. “As we continue to emerge as a leader in our market, we’re proud to work with progressive retailers to create an experience that is worth coming back for every day
This opens up more opportunities for Walmart to get in the sushi market and attract new customers that look for something a bit more relaxing and fun than just picking up a box of grocery store sushi and leaving the store.
If you are looking for great quality sushi, you shouldn’t buy sushi at a grocery store, it doesn’t matter how tempting it is to just put a box in your cart while you shop, it won’t give you the experience you expect.
However, if you do want to try it out or you actually like it (which is not impossible) then the option is available for you at Walmart, and if you happen to be near a store with Hissho Sushi then you might want to try that experience as well.
