How Do You Order Blended Drinks On The Starbucks App?
To specify through the Starbucks app that you want your drink blended, you need to edit the preparation process to “blend”. However, there is a range of Starbucks artisan drinks that are already blended as part of the preparation process. You can customize these drinks by either double blending them or altering the ingredients to be blended.
This article takes a look at blended drinks through the Starbucks app: what it means, what they are, and how you order them.
What Is A Starbucks Blended Drink?
Blending refers to the way a drink is prepared. A Starbucks beverage can be poured (or “built”), mixed or blended. Blending refers to an intense and complete mixing of a drink so that all ingredients are combined equally and no ingredient can be distinguished separately.
For example, the Frappuccino Blended Beverages are the Starbucks signature blended drinks range. They are made by blending milks, ice, sauces and/or syrups, cream, and a range of other ingredients.
The Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino, for example, is made with “Frappuccino Roast coffee, mocha sauce and Frappuccino chips blended with milk and ice, layered with whipped cream and chocolate cookie crumble and topped with vanilla whipped cream, mocha drizzle and chocolate cookie crumble.
These drinks are already blended. You’ll notice when ordering that you can customize your Frappuccino by editing:
- The type of milk used
- The type and amount of espresso used
- The flavour and amount of sauce
- The amount of times blended and the blended add ins
- Other add ins

How Do You Order Blended Drinks Through The Starbucks App?
Ordering blended Starbucks drinks online is possible, but it depends on the type of drink you want to blend and how that drink is prepared in the first place.
For example, the Starbucks Reserve Cold Brew does not have a blending option at all, whereas the Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso (which is not blended in the first place) comes with an option to customize by blending.
Only drinks which are blended during the initial preparation process are offered for double blending through the Starbucks app.
To order, head to the menu and select the type of drink you want.
Say you want to try a Caffè Vanilla Frappuccino Blended Beverage, a drink which is blended during the initial preparation process. You’ll notice a list of customizations. The third customization is “blended options”. Click “edit”, and you’ll see “Blended Prep”. This refers to the preparation process. Clicking on this will bring up the “double blended” option.
The customizations menu is pretty much the same for each item on the menu.
What Does Double Blended Mean And How Can I Order It?
Double blending refers to the process of blending a drink twice. This process alters the texture of drinks, making them smoother, thicker, and easier to drink.
Most Starbucks drinks can be double blended and most ingredients can be included in the blending process. However, it’s important to remember that Starbucks baristas are not allowed to blend food items into beverages. This is because it is against company policy.
Starbucks baristas are also not permitted to blend protein shakes (or any other foodstuffs) into their drinks.
To order double blending, select it during the customization process. If it can’t be selected online, then you’ll have ask for it to be done in-store. Remember that the process takes time and barista attention.
In other words, be courteous about it and accept the waiting time.
